Hiroki is an assistant professor at M University where Misaki currently attends. Initially in love with his childhood friend, Akihiko, Hiroki's love ceases upon realizing that his affections would never be returned. He soon falls for Nowaki, forming the pairing of Egoist.

Hiroki comes from an affulent family which explains his nonchalant attitude towards continuously advancing headstrong in university and his neverending mountain collection of books. He has always been a sore loser even when he was a child and absolutely detests defeat even if it kills him. For instance, his elementary schedule was filled with activities back-to-back: Monday, cram school; Tuesday, swimming; Wednesday, piano; Thursday, cram school and kendo; Friday, caligraphy; and Saturday, cram school and swimming. Despite the onslaught of various activities resulting in eventual frustration, Hiroki persevered in completing all of it because of his ego as well as the dread of having others think of him as inferior. It is ultimately his pride that digs his own grave.

Hiroki falls under the tsundere archetype. Tsundere is a term used for an arrogant, aggressive personality that is fundamentally tender and loving underneath or an ultimately kind individual yet whose actions say otherwise. Because of Hiroki's beastly temper, he is often called "Demon Kamijou" and is feared among his students yet if one looks closely, Hiroki is actually an introvert, easily flustered when provoked.

Hiroki is a covert dreamer. He silently yearns but he does not take any point to voice or act these desires, terrified of rejection. He restrains his dreams rather well in order to not delude his reality and more often than not, manages to maintain his businesslike disposition. Hiroki perceives such feelings selfish and since said emotion causes imbalance, he wishes to stay out of trouble. Despite his attempt in forming a barrier to shield himself from wounds, Hiroki is still vulnerable because of the fervor he harbors.

Hiroki is usually frank with his assessment of others, whether it is about personalities or work ethics. He is indifferent to how others may perceive his words. Ironically, he finds it quite difficult to voice his own sentiments as well as dealing with those who are direct with their affection (i.e. Nowaki).

A lover of literature, Hiroki has an immense collection of books (basically, the inhabitants of his apartment), and often seeks refuge in them when feeling blue.

It's not hard to be immediately pulled in by Hiroki. Anyone who has been acquainted with a one-sided love could relate. Despite his strong front — his demonic aura, he's undoubtedly fragile. The wall Hiroki's built around himself isn't as sturdy as he'd like to believe. If it were, the people around him wouldn't easily affect him.
